Hillary Clinton BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Hillary Clinton cemented her status as  the first woman to become presumptive presidential nominee  of a major American political party on Tuesday night, when the Associated Press projected her winner in New Jersey’s Democratic primary. Clinton’s victory in the Garden State ensures she will have more pledged delegates, unbound superdelegates and overall voters than her rival Sen. Nigeria: INEC releases Edo, Ondo gov election timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Thursday, in Abuja, released the time table and schedule of activities for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States. The elections are scheduled for Saturday, September 10, and Saturday, November 26, 2016, respectively. According to the commission, June 12, 2016 has been fixed for the commencement of campaigns by political parties in the Edo governorship election, while 2nd – 4th of July, 2016 has been set aside for the conduct of party primaries, including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries. It also scheduled 11th August, 2016 for publication of official Register of Voters for the election, while submission of names of party agents for the election to the Electoral Officers of the Local Government Areas has been fixed for 27 August, 2016. Top Republicans are divided on whether to support Donald Trump after the businessman all but secured the party's presidential nomination. Some took to social media to disavow their membership in the party by burning their voter registration forms. Others, though, started to fall in line behind the candidate, saying Mr Trump is vastly preferable to Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee. Mr Trump is deeply unpopular among many key voting blocs in the US. "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed... and we will deserve it," South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham said on Tuesday after Texas Senator Ted Cruz dropped out of the race, effectively clearing a path for Mr Trump. US election 2016: Trump and Clinton win New York primaries

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, frontrunners in the race to be the US presidential candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties, have secured comfortable victories in the crucial New York primary election. Mrs Clinton, after beating Bernie Sanders, said her victory for the Democratic nomination was in sight. Mr Trump looked set to take nearly all the 95 Republican delegates at stake. He said his nearest rival Ted Cruz was "just about mathematically eliminated". With more than 98% of the results in, Mr Trump is leading with just over 60% of the vote while Mrs Clinton has just under 58%. US networks projected that Mr Trump had won in his home state barely seconds after the polls closed at 21:00 EDT (01:00 GMT).
