No fewer than 1,500 women gave birth in 28 Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in Borno State in 2015, the state Primary Health Care Management Board said on Sunday in Maiduguri. The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Sule Mene, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the deliveries were recorded between January 2015 and January 2016. Mene said about 14,600 pregnant women received anti-natal care, psycho-social services and child nutrition support. He added that the agency had also received about 1,200 severe medical cases, which were referred to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for proper care. Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, on Saturday asked the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to resign his position in order to preserve the integrity of the National Assembly. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, in an interview with our correspondent, said the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court would add value to the battle against corruption. Citing an instance involving a former Senate President, the late Chuba Okadigbo, Falana asked Saraki to resign having undertaken to prove his innocence before the CCT. The "world's best chef", who was found dead in his home last week, was the victim of a huge wine scam that put him in considerable financial trouble, according to reports. Benoit Violier, 44, whose Restaurant de l’Hotel de Ville was awarded three Michelin stars, committed suicide last Sunday, leaving no note. But it is now claimed he was in significant financial trouble, despite the apparent success of his restaurant in Crissier, near Lausanne in Switzerland. Swiss financial magazine Bilan claims he was the victim of a vast scam allegedly masterminded by Private Finance Partners, a Swiss wine company based in Sion. In 2015, the company trading in rare wines sold expensive bottles that fetched thousands of pounds to a number of restaurants, including Violier’s, but allegedly failed to deliver them. President Muhammadu Buhari has begun a short vacation, his office announced Friday. The president will be on break from his official functions February 5 to February 10, 2016. During his absence, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the president, a statement signed by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said. “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the statement said. President Buhari is taking his first vacation only eight months since coming to office.
