Pope Francis is a 'Very Political Person' -Donald Trump

Image
Imagine this split screen: On one side is Donald Trump, repeating his campaign pledge to build a big wall between the United States and Mexico. On the other is Pope Francis, kneeling to pray for the thousands of undocumented immigrants who have died trying to cross the border. As the Pope visits Mexico February through February 17, he is not expected to tussle with Trump or directly criticize U.S. immigration policy. Papal aides said Francis wants to avoid appearing to intervene in the presidential election. That hasn't stopped Trump from taking aim at the Pope. "I think that the Pope is a very political person. I think that he doesn't understand the problems our country has," Trump said in an interview Thursday on Fox Business. "I don't think he understands the danger of the open border that we have with Mexico." Will Francis fire back? Not likely. But Catholic leaders say the pontiff will send an unmistakeable message when he travels t...

How Buka Suka Dimka was Arrested After the Coup

Image
40 years ago, after the calamitous coup failed, Lt. Colonel Buka Dimka who played a leading role in the events of February 13, 1976 sought refuge in the arms of an old girlfriend in Afikpo in the then Anambra State. An indigene of the town, Chief Jasper Okoro, a native of Afikpo now in Ebonyi State, a former Editor-in-Chief of Ebonyi State owned newspapers, publishers of the Nigerian Patriot recounts the events of that time and he like many other indigenes of the town would not disclose the present identity of Ugo, the former Dimka flame who is now married.  Excerpts: What can you say about the Dimka’s coup? I was a teacher when the coup took place and Dimka and his partners were declared wanted. At that time, the radio kept announcing that whoever finds him should report to the police as some benefits will be given to the person. So, every 15 minutes or thereabout the radio continued to flare the information. Dimka had served as an officer here, (Afikpo) we came back...

Why the Judgement Favoured Wike and Amosun - Supreme Court

Image
The Supreme Court on Friday gave its reasons for affirming Barrister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ibikunle Amosun as the validity elected Governor of Rivers and Ogun state in the April 11, 2015 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the two states. The apex court had on January 27, 2015 upheld the election of the two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governors, having dismissed all the appeals challenging their victory at the poll. The seven-member panel of Justices of the apex court, presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed. in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun set aside the judgments of the Court of Appeal and that of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered in December 16 and 24th October, 2015 respectively. The Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had cancelled the election that produced Wike as governor and ordered a re-run. In the same vein, the...

Edo; The Unique and Royal Tribe of Benin People

Image
Oba gha tor kpere.......Iseeeeeee!!!! "Behold the great, unique and royal tribe of Benin, with our Father the Oba of Benin, as King and undisputed leader of the Kingdom of Benin and the Edo Empire. Our Obas are not elected or selected by mere mortals but are ordained in Heaven by spirits.....We do not need adulterated polithifians as Governors and other so called royal families to do their Government magic to select one person and put them on the throne. Please look at this picture and show me a link between our royalty and that of any other tribe or Kingdom in Africa, that does not come directly from our loins. Oba Ewuare was the first Oba of Benin that came into contact with the Europeans in 1472 via Ruy de Sequeria. His first Son was our first graduate Oba and we had a Benin, not Ife, embassy in Portugal and a Portuguese Embassy in Benin and not in Oyo or Egba land. We did international trade with the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and the British, when others were s...

Valentine and it's Many Stories

Image
Story of St. Valentine "The story of Valentine's Day begins in the third century with an oppressive Roman emperor and a humble Christian Martyr.   The emperor was Claudius II.   The Christian was Valentinus. Claudius had ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and had made it a crime punishable by death to associate with Christians.   But Valentinus was dedicated to the ideals of Christ; not even the threat of death could keep him from practicing his beliefs.   He was arrested and imprisoned. During the last weeks of Valentinus's life a remarkable thing happened.   Seeing that he was a man of learning, the jailer asked whether his daughter, Julia, might be brought to Valentinus for lessons.   She had been blind since birth.   Julia was a pretty young girl with a quick mind.   Valentinus read stories of Rome's history to her.   He described the world of nature to her.   He taught her arithmetic and told her about God.  She...

Sanders May Wins the popular vote, but Clinton could still get the nomination

Image
Many people on Twitter expressed surprise that Hillary Clinton basically walked away with the same amount of total delegates as Bernie Sanders after the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, despite the decisive 20-plus-point rout by Sanders. It highlights the longstanding but little-discussed “superdelegate” system that could play a huge role in who wins the Democratic nomination this year. It turns out, the Democratic party decides its nominee in a massively undemocratic way – and is a ticking time bomb for the party and its voter base if Sanders keeps winning. The Democratic party’s nomination will ultimately be decided by more than 4,700 delegates at its nominating convention in the summer. Most of those delegates are allocated based on votes in each state’s primary or caucus. However, the party also assigns what are known as “superdelegates” – 700 or so people who aren’t elected by anyone during the primary process and are free to vote any way they want at the convention...
